To further explore my interest in the intersection of transportation & the urban landscape, I conducted independent research as part of Professor Debbie Chachra’s Infrastructure Research Group at Olin College of Engineering. Following Olin’s mission Engineering for Everyone, I hoped to build a greater understanding about the ways in which the public views transit, transportation infrastructure, and urban places more broadly. To this end, many people’s visions of cities and urban places are shaped by streets, so I wanted to further explore, attempt to define, and advocate for Complete Streets practices in both urban and rural environments in a way in which was accessible & interesting for all.

The final product of my research was an explanatory journalism article titled “What Are Complete Streets: Tackling Cars’ Primacy in All Corners of America.” The full article is available here.

Going forward, I hope to expand this research into exploring ways public, mass transit can be used to further reshape cities into areas that better serve people.
